Lamb Shanks in Red Wine and Spices - A Tasty Mediterranean dish. Lamb Shanks a favourite – great cooked in a slow cooker. Add as many vegies as you like.

Serve with vegetables, mash, salad or just crusty bread.

Slow Cooked Lamb Shanks in Spices & Red Wine

Serves 4-6 (Mild)

Shopping List:

1 tablespoon plain flour

1 to 1 ½ Kgs Lamb Shanks

2 Large Carrots – Cut into Chunks

1 Swede – Cut into Chunks

1 Parsnip – Cut into Chunks

2 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil

5 or 6 Small Onions

1 Cup Red Wine

2 Tablespoons Tomato Paste

Salt  Water

Method:

  • Preheat Oven to 170 degrees
  • Coat Meat with Flour
  • Brown Meat in Oil – remove to Casserole Dish
  • Add Spice Blend to Pan – Stir 30 Seconds
  • Brown Vegetables in Pan – Add to Casserole
  • Add Red Wine & Tomato Paste to Pan- Bring to Boil
  • Pour over Meat & Vegetables in Casserole
  • Add Water to Just Cover and add salt to Taste
  • Cook, covered in Oven 2-2 ½ hours or until meat is very Tender

Suggestion:  Serve with mashed potatoes or soft cooked polenta.

Slow Cooker Option:  When using slow cooker half the water and cook on low for 6-8 hours
